Pale Skies offers a lighter than air take on post-rock and shoegaze with the warmth of “Larung Memori”. Graceful guitars seemingly waft up into an immense space. Vocals have a sweetness to them, clear-eyed and focused. A pastoral vision takes shape over the course of the work, one that brings to mind some of Explosions in the Sky’s more subdued work. For the sheer happiness that radiates throughout nods to Slowdive’s patient approach enter into the equation. Drums here have an emotional quality to them for they are used sparingly. Melodies waft on through the entirety of the gentle experience.

The graceful guitars extend towards the heavens. With their introduction of the piece the vocals gradually enter into the equation. For a while it is simply these two elements intermingling and the way they buoy each other up feels majestic. Everything here is kept slow, deliberate, and finely crafted. Production values here absolutely sparkle for there is gigantic cinematic flourish to the way that they evolve the sound. Much of it holds back adding to the restraint of the piece. Her voice right in the center of it results in everything else swirling about in this blissed-out, dreamy cadence. From beginning to end, every little flourish gets magnified in the epic boundless space. Done with such dignity it is a perfect song to soothe the soul.

“Larung Memori” shows off Pale Skies’ ability to create an aural universe that comes from the very soul, a true masterclass of a track.
